Exercise

Physical activity or exercise can improve your health and reduce your risk of developing several diseases such as type 2 diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease. But did you know that what you do with your body can have a powerful effect on your mental wellbeing……

Research shows that keeping active can:

- Cause chemical changes in the brain that has a positive impact on our mood
- Help improve sleep patterns
- Help prevent and reduce symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress
- Help people feel less alone if they exercise with others
- Helps add years to your lifespan
- Strengthens your heart, lungs, bones and muscles for increased energy and strength

Being active doesn’t have to mean spending hours in a gym, aim to find activities that you enjoy and then think about how you can do them every day. Start simple, do what is enjoyable, make a plan and stick to it.

The Squad Health and Wellbeing Initiative helped me get back on track after a few big life events occurred that rattled me a little more than expected. Through this program, I was able to access counseling, that without the help of Squad, I would not have prioritised due to the financial burden of ongoing treatment. If I had not been able to access the program, Iā€™m not sure I would have been able to maintain my full-time job and manage my work effectively.
